Is My Mind Disciplined?

Colossians 3:1-11

Sunday Sermon

Introduction

What is the condition of our mind? Is it disciplined? Are we in control of our mind? Or does it go wild, uncontrolled?
• In other words, what is the think pattern of our mind?
• Are we able to control our mind in a godly way?

There are two organs of human body that are very vital and crucial—heart and mind.
• Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
• Romans 8:6-7, “For to be carnally minded is death; . . . Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: . . .”

Therefore, every Christian must be committed to take care of both these organs to make sure that he or she is spiritually healthy and strong.

A Disciplined Mind

What Is It Not?
1. A Carnal Mind (Romans 8:5-9)—from carnal mind comes envying, strife, divisions (1 Cor 3:1-3).
2. A Blinded Mind (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
3. A Defiled Mind (Titus 1:15)

What Is It?
1. The Mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:12-16)
2. The Renewed or Transformed Mind (Romans 12:2)
3. The Pure Mind or Spiritual Mind (Philippians 4:8)
Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praiseworthy, think on these things.”

How to Keep our Mind Disciplined (Colossians 3:1-11)

Take these precautions:
• Set our minds on things above—heavenly mindedness
• Take Christ as our life
• Put to death the sinful thoughts that would captivate us
• Put on the new man, which is renewed after the image of Christ
• Let Christ be all, and in all

Let our mind be controlled and guided by the Word of God:
• 2 Peter 3:1-2
• Colossians 3:12-17
• Psalm 119:9-16

Benefit of a Disciplined Mind (Isaiah 26:1-4)

Isaiah 26:3-4, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you. Trust you in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:”

Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Conclusion/Application

Romans 8:6-7, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
